Eli Lilly to Invest $5 Billion in New Virginia Manufacturing Facility
Eli Lilly announced plans to build a $5 billion drug manufacturing facility in Goochland County, Virginia. This new site will focus on producing targeted cancer drugs, treatments for autoimmune diseases, and other advanced therapies.
The facility is part of Eli Lilly's broader commitment to expand its domestic production with four new U.S. manufacturing plants. The Virginia site is the first of these planned locations and is expected to start making medicines within five years.
The investment will create about 2,450 high-wage manufacturing and construction jobs in the area. Eli Lilly says the new plant will develop active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and help strengthen U.S. production as the industry prepares for possible tariffs.
The facility will make targeted cancer drugs, autoimmune treatments, and other advanced medicines.
The plant will be in Goochland County, Virginia, just west of Richmond.
The company wants to boost local production, prepare for possible tariffs, and increase its ability to make important medicines in the United States.
The project is expected to generate about 2,450 high-wage manufacturing and construction jobs.
