U.S. Orders Anthropic to Block Foreign Access to Its Top AI Models
Anthropic said it has disabled access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models after receiving an order from the U.S. government on Friday afternoon. The company said the directive cited national security authorities and required it to suspend access by any foreign national.
Reports said the Trump administration is blocking foreign governments, companies and individuals from using Anthropic's most advanced models. Anthropic said it complied with the order, and users of the two models lost access after the shutdown.
The company said the models were released this month and are among its latest top AI systems. Anthropic also said it believes the government got the issue wrong, but it still followed the directive.
It ordered Anthropic to stop foreign nationals, companies and governments from accessing its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models.
Anthropic said it did so to comply with a U.S. export control directive tied to national security concerns.
The affected models were Fable 5 and Mythos 5, which Anthropic said are among its most advanced systems.
