Fundamental Analysis
Mosaic Co. Strong Phosphate Market; Potash Cuts
2023-Q4 Earnings Call
Mosaic Co. ended 2023 with a revenue of $13.7 billion and an adjusted EPS of $3.57. Phosphate markets are vibrant, and the company anticipates sustained strength, whereas potash is seeing a recovery in demand. However, due to the potash sector's current economics, Mosaic is dialing back production at its Colonsay mine. Investments in 2023 amounted to $1.4 billion; the company also refinanced $900 million in debt and returned $1.1 billion to shareholders, bolstered by over $750 million in stock buybacks. For Q1 2024, estimated sales volumes are 2.0-2.2 million tonnes for potash and 1.6-1.8 million tonnes for phosphate, with mine prices for potash expected to be $225-$250 per tonne and $580-$605 per tonne for phosphate. Mosaic also plans to generate at least $150 million in annual cost savings starting from 2024, partly due to a new digital acceleration program.
