Glance View
Abrdn is a UK-based asset manager. It takes money from individual savers, pension funds, insurance companies, and other institutions and invests it in stocks, bonds, real estate, and other assets on their behalf. The company sells investment products and managed portfolio services, and it earns most of its money from fees charged for managing client assets and related services. Its core job is to help clients invest without having to build their own in-house investment teams. That includes active funds, multi-asset portfolios, and investment platforms that let advisers and investors buy, hold, and switch between products. Abrdn is part of the investment chain between the end saver and the markets: it chooses assets, runs portfolios, and handles the day-to-day work of managing risk, trading, and administration. What makes the business model different is that it depends more on client trust, product design, and distribution than on physical goods. If clients move their money elsewhere, fee income can fall, so the company has to keep its investment products competitive and easy to use. For beginner investors, the key idea is that Abrdn makes money by managing other people’s capital, not by selling a manufactured product.
