Camellia PLC
Glance View
Camellia PLC is a UK-listed holding company whose main business is farming and processing crops in emerging markets, especially tea. It owns and runs large agricultural estates that grow tea, as well as other crops such as fruit and nuts. The company also has a smaller engineering and technical services arm. Its customers are mainly tea buyers, food and beverage companies, produce traders, and industrial clients that use its engineering services. Camellia makes money by selling the crops it grows and processes, and by charging for engineering and related services through its subsidiary businesses. In agriculture, it sits close to the source of the supply chain: it controls land, farming, harvesting, and initial processing before the products move on to packers, exporters, or manufacturers. That gives it more control over quality and supply than a pure trading company. What makes Camellia different is that it is not a branded consumer foods company or a simple commodity trader. It is a long-term owner of farms and plantations, so its economics depend on land, crop yields, weather, labor, and commodity pricing. That makes it a value-chain business with real operating assets, rather than a company that mainly buys and resells products.
