Glencore PLC
Glance View
Glencore is a global commodities company that mines and trades the raw materials used by industry. It produces copper, cobalt, zinc, nickel, iron ore, coal, and other resources, and it also buys, stores, moves, and resells many of these materials through its trading arm. Its business starts deep in the supply chain, where it pulls material out of the ground, and extends all the way to helping deliver those materials to factories, utilities, smelters, and other industrial users. The company makes money in two main ways. First, it earns revenue from selling the metals, coal, and other commodities it produces from its own mines and industrial assets. Second, it earns trading income by arranging the purchase, transport, storage, and sale of commodities for customers and counterparties around the world. Its main customers are industrial buyers that need steady supplies of raw materials, as well as energy and metals market participants that rely on Glencore’s logistics and market access. What makes Glencore different is that it combines physical production with a large trading business. Many mining companies only extract and sell what they produce, while Glencore also acts as a middleman in global commodity flows, using its network of mines, warehouses, ports, and shipping relationships. That gives it a role both as a supplier of raw materials and as a coordinator of supply chains in markets where timing, transport, and reliable delivery matter as much as the commodity itself.
