Greenidge Generation Holdings Inc
Glance View
Greenidge Generation Holdings runs a natural-gas power plant and uses much of that electricity to mine bitcoin. It also sells electricity into the wholesale power market when that is more attractive than using the power for mining. In plain terms, the company is both an energy producer and a bitcoin miner, with the power plant at the center of the business. Its main customers are not traditional retail buyers. The company earns money by selling bitcoin it mines and by selling power into the grid or through related energy-market arrangements. That means its results depend on two things: the price of bitcoin and the economics of producing and selling electricity. What makes Greenidge different is that its mining activity is tied directly to its own power supply. Instead of renting space in someone else’s data center or buying all of its electricity from outside suppliers, it controls a generation asset and can choose how to use that power. This gives the company flexibility, but it also leaves it exposed to energy prices, power-market rules, and bitcoin market swings.
