Planet Labs PBC
Glance View

Planet Labs PBC builds and operates a large fleet of small Earth-imaging satellites that take frequent pictures of the planet. It sells access to that imagery, along with software tools and data products that help customers monitor places, assets, and activity on the ground from space. Its main customers are government agencies, defense and intelligence users, environmental and humanitarian groups, and businesses in fields like agriculture, insurance, energy, and mapping. These customers pay subscription fees and service contracts for image access, archive data, alerts, and custom analytics rather than buying hardware themselves. Planet’s business model is different because it sits between satellite manufacturing and data services. Instead of sending a single large satellite for one-off use, it runs a continuously updated imaging network that lets customers watch the same locations over time and detect change quickly. That makes it more like a recurring-data provider than a traditional space company.
