Rational AG
Rational AG makes professional cooking equipment for commercial kitchens. Its core products are combi ovens and related cooking systems that let kitchens steam, bake, roast, and grill food in one machine. It also sells accessories, cleaning products, and software that help customers use the equipment more efficiently. The company mainly serves restaurants, hotels, caterers, bakeries, cafeterias, and large institutional kitchens such as schools and hospitals. It makes money by selling equipment, aftermarket accessories, and service-related products through a global network of dealers and direct sales teams. Much of its business is tied to kitchens replacing older gear with machines that save labor, space, and training time. What makes Rational different is that it is not a broad kitchen supplier; it is focused on a narrow category of high-end cooking systems. That specialization matters because these machines are central to how a professional kitchen works, and the company builds ongoing customer relationships through installation support, training, cleaning supplies, and service.

Sales hit a record: RATIONAL reported Q1 sales of EUR 318 million, up 11% organically and 8% including FX, marking the first time the company topped EUR 300 million in a first quarter.
Margins held up: EBIT increased 5% to EUR 76 million, with an EBIT margin of 23.9%. Management said this is in line with plan, even with tariffs and currency headwinds.
U.S. demand strong: North America was a standout again, with U.S. revenue up 30% before currency effects. Management also said recent price increases have been well accepted.
China mixed: China was weaker in Q1 as the team focused on launching iCombi1, onboarding new sales staff, and dealing with softer consumer sentiment, but management said the launch response has been positive.
Outlook unchanged: The company kept its full-year view intact, expecting mid- to high-single-digit revenue growth and an EBIT margin of 25% to 26%.
Tariffs matter: U.S. Section 232 tariffs are expected to raise full-year tariff expense to about EUR 30 million, but some of the pressure should be offset by tariff refunds booked in Q2.
