Bper Banca SpA
BPER Banca is an Italian retail and commercial bank. It takes deposits, offers checking and savings accounts, lends to households and small and midsize businesses, and sells payment, wealth management, insurance, and investment products through its branch network and digital channels. Its main customers are everyday consumers, entrepreneurs, and local companies that need routine banking and financing for homes, working capital, and business growth. The bank makes money mainly from interest on loans and from fees tied to account services, cards, advisory products, insurance distribution, and asset management. Like most universal banks, it sits in the middle of the financial system: it collects savings from depositors and turns that money into loans and other financial services for the local economy. What sets BPER apart is its role as a relationship bank for Italian communities and businesses, especially in the regions where it has a strong branch presence. That gives it a focus on personal service, local lending decisions, and cross-selling of everyday banking products rather than relying only on investment banking or trading.

Integration: BPER said the merger with BPSO is fully completed as of April 20, and management is now focused on extracting the promised cost and revenue synergies.
Quarterly performance: Reported Q1 results were held back by TRS and other market effects, but management said the underlying business was solid, with revenue, profitability, and capital all still strong.
Guidance: The bank kept its 2026 outlook for NII at flat to slightly up low single digit, commissions at higher mid-single digit, and cost-to-income at around 45%.
Capital: Management said the 14.5% CET1 target is a conservative floor and includes both the planned share buyback and the full TRS impact.
Asset quality: Credit quality remained strong, with management saying there was no sign of deterioration despite geopolitical uncertainty.
Outlook: The team said further synergy benefits should become more visible later in 2026 and into 2027, while the August business plan update will give a broader post-2027 view.
