PG&E Corp
PG&E Corp is the parent company of Pacific Gas and Electric Company, a regulated utility that delivers electricity and natural gas to homes and businesses in Northern and Central California. It owns the transmission and distribution wires, power lines, gas pipelines, and related infrastructure that move energy to customers, rather than selling energy as a commodity merchant would. Its main customers are households, small businesses, large commercial users, and public institutions within its service territory. The company makes most of its money through utility bills approved by regulators, which let it recover the cost of running the grid, maintaining pipelines, and investing in safety, reliability, and upgrades to the system. What makes PG&E’s business different is that it is a regulated monopoly in a defined geographic area, so customers usually cannot choose another electricity or gas network provider. That makes the company’s role essential and local: it sits in the middle of the energy value chain, connecting power plants and gas supply to end users and being paid for delivering energy safely and reliably.
