Semapa Sociedade de Investimento e Gestão SGPS is a Portuguese holding company that owns industrial businesses rather than selling products itself. Its main stakes are in the paper and pulp business through The Navigator Company and in cement and building materials through Secil, with smaller interests in other industrial and environmental activities.
Through those subsidiaries, Semapa sells paper, pulp, cement, concrete-related materials, and waste and environmental services. Its customers are publishers, packaging makers, printers, construction companies, and other industrial buyers that need bulk materials. Semapa makes money mainly from the earnings and dividends of the companies it controls, plus value created when those businesses sell products in their own markets.
What makes Semapa different is that it sits one step above the factory floor. It does not run a single consumer brand; instead, it owns businesses that supply essential inputs to other industries. That gives investors exposure to basic materials and industrial services through a corporate holding structure.
