Aecon Group Inc
Aecon Group is a Canadian construction and infrastructure company. It builds and maintains roads, bridges, tunnels, rail lines, utilities, and large industrial facilities, and it also takes part in public-private infrastructure projects. In plain terms, Aecon is the contractor that plans, builds, and sometimes helps finance the big physical systems cities, governments, and companies rely on. Its main customers are public agencies, transportation authorities, utility companies, and private owners of large industrial and commercial projects. Aecon makes money by bidding on projects and earning fees for construction management, design-build work, heavy civil construction, and long-term maintenance or project partnership contracts. Some jobs are simple one-off builds, while others are larger, multi-year contracts that tie construction, engineering, and ongoing service together. What makes Aecon’s business model different is that it sits in the middle of the infrastructure value chain, where execution matters as much as design. It combines skilled field work, project management, and specialized equipment to deliver complex projects that few smaller contractors can handle. That gives the company a role as a trusted builder for essential public works and large capital projects, especially in Canada.

Record revenue: Aecon reported its highest quarterly revenue ever at $1.6 billion, up 25% year over year, with roughly 80% of the growth coming organically.
Profitability improved: Adjusted EBITDA doubled to $82 million from $41 million last year, helped by better margins in Construction, especially in Urban Transportation Solutions and Civil.
Utilities buyout: Aecon agreed to buy Oaktree’s preferred equity stake in Aecon Utilities for $320 million, a move management said simplifies the structure and gives Aecon full economic and strategic control.
Backlog and awards: Backlog ended the quarter at $10.5 billion, with $1.3 billion of new awards in the quarter and $2.7 billion year to date, though management said some major awards are not yet in backlog.
Outlook: Management reaffirmed a positive 2026 outlook and now expects double-digit revenue growth for the full year, with further growth expected in 2027.
Margins and risk: Management said margins have stabilized and should improve gradually, while the backlog mix is becoming lower risk through more collaborative and progressive contract models.
Key projects: The Gordie Howe International Bridge reached substantial completion and opened to traffic, and Aecon highlighted a growing pipeline in nuclear, utilities, power generation, and battery storage.
