Member growth: Planet Fitness ended Q2 with 21.5 million members, up 3.6% year over year, but management said sustainable net member growth remains the top priority because Q2 comp growth was driven entirely by pricing rather than new joins.
Marketing reset: The company is changing its creative to feel lighter, more approachable and less intimidating, with interim ads coming this quarter and a new campaign planned for the key Q1 acquisition season.
Pricing tests: Management is actively testing regional and national pricing ideas, including a limited-time $10 Classic Card promotion, but said the test is meant to study demand and elasticity, not to permanently roll back the $15 price.
Outlook raised: Full-year adjusted net income per diluted share guidance was raised to about 6% growth from about 4%, helped by a lower share count from buybacks, even though interest expense guidance rose after a $75 million debt draw.
Steady operations: Same club sales rose 1.7%, adjusted EBITDA rose 3.5%, and the company opened 23 clubs in the quarter, while churn stayed in the middle of its usual 3% to 4% range.
Capital discipline: Planet Fitness bought back about 4 million shares for $200 million in Q2 and still has $250 million left on its authorization, while also signaling continued willingness to recycle capital through portfolio transactions and international moves.
