A deposit-funded bank increasingly powered by fee and trading income

Across the multi-year history, earnings have improved as non-interest income grew faster than net interest income, cushioning the rate-sensitive spread business. The profile is therefore mix-sensitive: fee and markets income complements a large deposit and lending franchise.

What is developing

The latest TTM results show further growth in non-interest income while net interest income remained broadly stable and common earnings rose more moderately. This reinforces the growing importance of non-interest lines, but one reporting date does not establish a lasting change in the model.

What matters next

Whether subsequent TTM non-interest income sustains its increase while net interest income holds near its recent level.
