Orsted Files Legal Challenge Over U.S. Suspension of $5 Billion Offshore Wind Project
Orsted, the Danish renewable energy company, has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government after its Revolution Wind offshore project was suspended. The project, a $5 billion joint venture with Skyborn Renewables, was halted by an order from the Trump administration through the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
The Revolution Wind project is located offshore of Rhode Island and Connecticut and was nearing completion when the suspension was issued. Orsted has announced that it will seek a court injunction to overturn the government’s decision and allow the project to proceed.
Following news of the legal challenge, shares of Orsted rose more than 4%.
Revolution Wind is a $5 billion offshore wind farm being developed by Orsted and Skyborn Renewables off the coast of Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The U.S. government, under the Trump administration, ordered the suspension of the project through the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
Orsted has filed a lawsuit and is seeking a court injunction to overturn the suspension and allow work on the project to continue.
