Ford Invests $2 Billion in Louisville Plant to Build Affordable Electric Pickup Starting at $30,000
Ford has announced a $2 billion investment to upgrade its assembly plant in Louisville, Kentucky, with the goal of manufacturing more affordable electric vehicles (EVs). This move is part of Ford's strategy to compete with lower-priced EVs from Chinese automakers.
The first vehicle in Ford's new affordable EV lineup will be a midsize electric pickup truck, planned to launch in 2027 with a starting price of $30,000. Ford aims to make EVs more accessible for American buyers, addressing common concerns about the cost of electric vehicles.
To support this effort, Ford is introducing a new production system and advanced materials to help lower manufacturing costs. The company has already invested an additional $3 billion in a battery park in Michigan to further support its push toward EVs.
The upgrades and new technologies are expected to increase efficiency at the Louisville plant and enable production of high-quality, low-cost EVs. However, Ford projects that the changes may result in roughly 600 fewer jobs at the facility.
